Youtube is an video-sharing website and its headquarters are in San Bruno, California. Three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steven Chen, and jawed Karim—created the service in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries. YouTube allows users to upload, view, rate, share, add to favorites, report, comment on videos, and subscribe to other users. It offers a wide variety of user-generated and corporate media videos. Available content includes video clips, TV show clips, music videos, short and documentary films, audio recordings, movie trailers, lie streams, and other content such as video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos.
Youtube is considered a long form marketing tool because you can upload a 5 minute video, a 1 hour video or a 24 hr. video. You can’t really do that on Instagram or Twitter. You can upload 1 min and 2 min respectively. And this is where Youtube becomes a very powerful medium and brings a lot of value when doing video testimonials, because it takes around 3 to 5 min to convey a message or tell a brand story.
Lets say a dermatologist wants to show a before and after a facial procedure and talk about how the patient felt before and how great she feels now. That should probably take around 3 to 5 minutes.
Now, you can watch videos on Facebook, but people don’t expect to watch long videos and they don’t have the patience either. In addition, people check Facebook on their phones and most of the time the phones are in silent mode. So if you want people to listen to your message you need to generate captions or subtitles so your potentials customers can at least read what your message is.
It is my believe than Youtube is, at this moment, a better video tool because the video quality is great and when people go to youtube they expect to watch a long video. Not to mention that is free.
